I like it. Thanks for this much needed book!. I read a little of this book and then found that I just didn't want to waste my time reading any more. Also, although all of the plants were chosen based on their inclusion in medical texts known in England prior to the Norman Conquest, the historical profiles do not always clearly identify the specific uses in Anglo Saxon England but may instead reference traditional practices from many cultures and times. In other pieces he takes a critical look at familiar figures; his piece on Richard Pryor is nothing short of brilliant; and there are equally suggestive essays on GONE WITH THE WIND and the actor Buddy Ebsen. I tell you, I went a little nutty trying to keep myself together. Among other things, few people really manage to meditate 45 minutes a day.The book explains how the researchers tried to adapt the program to a more specific need: preventing people from getting depressed again after they've been treated. The first item gets ample coverage i Brimming with indispensable analysis, thoughtful reflection, and raucous humor, This Ain't Brain Surgery is the finest baseball book since Ball Four, and marks Larry Dierker as a writer at the top of his game.. Despite his status as a fourteen-year ace starter in the big leagues (thirteen of them with Houston), two-time All-Star, and well-regarded longtime TV colorman for the Astros, Dierker's hiring refuted conventional wisdom and deeply confounded most major league observers. Plenty of people were surprised when Larry Dierker was named the manager of the Houston Astros at the end of the 1996 season, but perhaps no one was more surprised than Larry Dierker. Let's face it, after nearly four decades in baseball, Larry Dierker has been there and done that like no one else before him. In This Ain't Brain Surgery he reflects on his memories of growing up in the majors -- from learning the fine art of locker-room pranks at his first spring training to deciding what to say to th
