I think I should have looked for a more kid friendly shell guide, but the guide itself was detailed and made identifying shells easy.. He even came to terms with history. Yes, this book ends in the yellow bird announcing he eats spiders and then munching up the spider. Better to nibble and move.As an ecologist myself I thoroughly enjoyed the whole journey through the woods. The book served that purpose nicely. Kelly has written a serviceable biography of a very complex man. In this way, it is quite similar to Clausewitz's _On War_, a manual for thinking about war, not winning one.
