Perhaps it is because our youngest three are boys, but they love the object lesson approach and having an active part in the discussion. The writings and lessons are somewhat obvious, but I'd rather that than overly complex. It's topical. What the characters do during the war is what makes it most interesting, but even without that, it's deep stuff. He founded a ragtag little outfit called "Mision Guadalupe" to give assistance to Latino immigrants (and "legal" or "illegal" was a question that somehow never came up). I should mention too, that if you DO happen to enjoy the delightful taste sensation that is apple pie, this book WILL make you crave it. Since this is a collection of artwork and not a self-described "encyclopedia" there isn't any need to include everything, though Sherry and Aldis definitely cover the basics.
