Pelias is a professor of speech communication at Southern Illinois University at CarbondaleA Methodology of the Heart presents a procession of situational compositions confronting matters such as family relationships, student/teacher communications, and general life at the university. It is absolutely a crucial addition to all book collectors with autoethnographic or communication interests as well as to the general reader attracted to daily life and higher education.. Pelias poetically evokes the spiritual aspects of life in a seemingly dispassionate fieldthe academy. Education without ethics, without sentiments, without heart, is simply soulless, factual academics and nothing more. He is the author of Writing Performance: Poeticizing the Researcher's Body and Performance Studies: The Interpretation of Aesthetic Texts. Pelias is a professor of speech communication at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.I'd love to see a discussion of, for example, Tangerine Dream's score to "Risky Business," particularly the ride on the elevated train, and follow that trend right on through to the beautiful and perfectly expressive score for "American Beauty" by Thomas Newman, which includes a subtle and masterful rhythmic control that owes next to nothing to any formal classical pedagogy I've ever come across. But the authors can not be faulted for the fact that film music has become much too big a subject for a single book.I confess I was disappointed with what seems to me to be a lack of depth in the analyses of individual films. It was light, airy and it went really well with the story. Also, although all of the plants were chosen based on their inclusion in medical texts known in England prior to the Norman Conquest, the historical profiles do not always clearly identify the specific uses in Anglo Saxon England but may instead reference traditional practices from many cultures and times. Don't look for excitement, its a science book. Best book!. There is a lot of great information in this book. It won’t disappoint.
