Very highly recommended.. The dialogue and illustrations can be shocking to 21st century parents in this politically correct age--and kids absolutely love it! (FYI--my kids have never had nightmares about any of this. All I have to say is that second-half of the book blows the first half of this book out of the water. I think he had his country at heart either way.. This is a fantastic read! I heard about it through my teacher and am so glad to have picked it up. I even like the cover -- which is so upbeat, colorful and charming that the book would make a perfect Christmas gift for anyone afflicted with this modern ailment.. The book could have used some additional copy editing to correct the occasional minor grammatical or typographical errors and to improve the citation references for the public domain illustrations.The book is an excellent reference from which to select plants for an Anglo Saxon heritage garden or other historical garden. It is not light reading, however, as it is a scholarly work and one should be prepared to work a little when one reads it.
